Luxembourg, 03 October 2022 — Nordea Asset Management (NAM) is pleased to welcome Cecilia Fryklöf, former Business Area Lead, Asset & Wealth Management within Nordea’s Group Sustainability team, to the role of Head of Active Ownership. She will take over the responsibilities of Katarina Hammar, who has left the company.
Fryklöf will be joining NAM’s award-winning Responsible Investments (RI) team, established in 2009 and today one of Europe’s largest and most experienced teams of ESG analysts. She will be heading NAM’s seven-member Active Ownership team within the broader RI team of twenty-six. Active Ownership is a crucial component of Nordea’s RI philosophy. Every year, the team conducts a range of structured engagements, typically in close contact with portfolio managers—last year NAM conducted 1,033 engagements.
In order to have a meaningful impact, engagements focus on climate, human rights, biodiversity/water and good governance. To maximise its influence, the team frequently collaborates with organizations like PRI, IFRS Sustainability Alliance, Climate Action 100+ and Corporate Human Rights Benchmark, to name a few. Additionally, the RI team collaborates with the Corporate Governance team on proxy voting; last year, it voted in over 4,200 General Meetings on thousands of proposals.
Fryklöf has strong sustainability and ESG experience and a robust knowledge of NAM’s approach, having worked at Nordea for over 15 years. Cecilia began her career at Nordea Markets in 2007 where she held various positions before moving to Asset & Wealth Management in 2018 to serve as Business Area Lead, where she worked on the Sustainability Strategy and ESG Regulation of Nordea Life and Pensions. Cecilia holds a BA in Economics from Stockholm University and has a SA8000 Standard certification from Social Accountability International, a pioneer in protecting workers rights around the world.
